How can an emergency stop be connected to the Altivar 58?
A true emergency stop should not rely totally on the drive to interrupt power to a motor. Consider the use of power interrupting devices such as shunt trip breakers or contactors. There are several ways to stop the drive depending on the control configuration. Some stop methods can be disabled or overridden. A commonly used stop method is to configure a logic input for freewheel stop (nSt). A logic input can be assigned to the Freewheel Stop / Run Permissive (NST) function. The drive controller will not run until the logic input is closed. Opening the logic input assigned to the function (setting it to state 0) causes the drive controller to stop applying power to the motor and the motor to coast to a stop. When the logic input is open, NST is displayed in the Drive state screen on the keypad display to indicate that a freewheel stop has been requested. The drive controller will not run until the logic input is closed. This can be used to stop the drive even when controlled by communication networks.
