Does the ATV312 series drive provide thermal protection for the motor when installed in UL508C configuration?

Issue:
Does the ATV312 series drive provide thermal protection for the motor when installed in UL508C configuration?

Product Line:
Altivar 312 series drives

Environment:
All models, All serial numbers.

Cause:
UL508C addendum found in the box with the drive.

Resolution:

The Altivar 312 series drive provides thermal protection of the motor by determining the motor temperature through monitoring of the current draw and voltage, based off of the motor nameplate information entered in to the drive at startup.  If the drive detects a thermal overload of the motor, it will shut down and display OLF fault code.  The drive will remember the motor temperature as long as the drive remains powered.  If main power is shut off to the drive, such as it is in a UL508C configuration, the drive will not remember the motor temperature when power is reapplied.   For this reason, it is necessary to use an external motor overload when the drive is installed in a UL508C configuration, or any other configuration that shuts main power to the drive off when a fault is detected.
