What can cause my I-pad to show "Cable is connected, device did not respond" when trying to connect to a drive?

Issue:
What can cause my I-pad to show "Cable is connected, device did not respond" when trying to connect to a drive?

Product Line:
I-pad app used to connect to ATV312,12,212

Environment:
All models/serial number drives, All releases of the I-pad app as of 5/6/2015

Cause:
I-pad auto detects when the cable is connected.

Resolution:
The I-pad auto detects when the adaptor cable is connected and then tries to connect to the drive.  If the drive is not connected, this fault message, "Cable is connected, device did not respond", will display.  Always connect the cable to the drive first, then to the I-pad, to prevent a timeout from occurring when the I-pad can not detect the device.
Also, verify that all communication port settings on the drive are set to factory default.  The I-pad port can not automatically adapt to differing baud rates and/or communication formats.  Always use Factory Default settings for the communication port on the drive when connecting to the I-pad app.
