Ask a Question

Can XW devices become damaged in a lightning strike?

Absolutely. Lightning arrestors offer a degree of protection, but there is no guarantee that damage will not occur in some form.
Typically lighting damage is likely if more than one device fails simultaneously and that event occured during the same time period
that a lightning storm occurred. Weather patterns can be easily obtained online to confirm or deny the possibility of lightning during a particular time period.
These types of occurrences are not covered under warranty and should be turned over to the customers homeowners insurance
to cover the cost of replacement. Certain failure modes are also typical in a lightning strike, such as burnt components, but it need
not appear so obvious. Uncontrolled sources of energy such as lightning will take the easiest path to ground, and will go thru electronic
equipment if it can.
