What is plugging and is it a recommended practice on a drive?
Plugging is one of the ways to stop a running motor.
It is done by reversing the leads and running the motor in reverse for a very brief period (like a pulse). This technique is commonly used with Contactor controls but should not be used with AC drives as it may cause nuisance overvoltage / overcurrent / overload trips. When trying to quickly stop a motor on an AC drive, suggest decreasing ramp time or using a braking method (e.g., dynamic braking, regenerative braking, dc injection braking, or mechanical braking).
