Ask a Question

Can a circuit breaker with a toggle handle be installed in "any" position?

Product Line:
All MCCB and MCB circuit breakers with toggle handles

While circuit breakers will function in any position, the NEC places a restriction when vertically mounted, per the following paragraph:

240.81 Indicating. Circuit breakers shall clearly indicate whether they are in the open “off” or closed “on” position.
Where circuit breaker handles are operated vertically rather than rotationally or horizontally, the “up” position of the handle shall be the “on” position.

NOTE: This applies only to circuit breakers with toggle handles and does not apply to Masterpact circuit breakers which must be mounted only in the standard upright position per their instruction bulletin.
